About Stephanie Drinkwater
Why did you decide to become an apprentice?
I started filling in part time at work with another student, but when they went off to uni I was asked if I would like to do an apprenticeship. I went to WGTA to see what it would be all about and then decided I loved the idea and started straight away.
How did you find out about apprenticeships?
Work offered me an apprenticeship as you have to stay in education until your 18. My school didn't really speak much about apprenticeships
What was the apprenticeship application / recruitment process like?
I didn't need to go through a application/ recruitment process at work as it was my parents company and I was just helping out to begin with. But when I went to WGTA I had an interview where I had to answer some questions and do maths and English test to see if I would need to do functional skills.
What is the best thing about being an apprentice?
I think the best thing about being an apprentice is that your learning on the job, you're not just getting a qualification you're getting experience which some of the time is more valued than the qualification.
What would you advise someone considering an apprenticeship?
My best piece of advice to anyone considering an apprenticeship is give it a go! Put your name down for everything and build your CV and be willing to learn new things and meet new people. This could be your first step into your dream career.
