About Emilia Hoyle
Why did you decide to become an apprentice?
I chose an apprenticeship to gain valuable work experience by applying theory learnt in College/University to a real life working environment. Traditional University didn’t appeal to me. Apprenticeships are more effective, I am positive my apprenticeship is a starting point of a successful career and a further step on my career ladder after completing my qualifications. I am ahead of University graduates because I have three years of valuable work experience.
How did you find out about apprenticeships?
I was selected by one of my teachers at Helsby High School as a suitable student to do a gap year work at Heat Trace Limited. In a meeting at Heat Trace, we discussed Apprenticeships and I was offered an Apprenticeship instead of the work placement.
What was the apprenticeship application / recruitment process like?
My recruitment process involved being selected by Helsby High School as an exceptional student, an informal meeting at Heat Trace, work experience and then a presentation & interview to the Managing Director of Heat Trace.
What is the best thing about being an apprentice?
I have been given some great experiences and responsibilies in my role rather than just being the person who makes cups of teas! I have organised an event where the Duke of Kent attended. I went to Italy to help organise one of Heat Trace's Conferences. 2 years later, I managed the conference and went to Germany 3 times!!
What would you advise someone considering an apprenticeship?
GO FOR IT! It will be the best move you make! You need to make sure you apply for an Apprenticeship with a company who value and invest in Apprentices.
